CAMX 2016: Additive Manufacturing

Additive Manufacturing Comes to Composites Fabrication

The use of continuous fiber in additive manufacturing systems is not trivial, but it is being done. As this fabrication technology evolves and matures, options for applying it in everything from automotive to aerospace to consumer composites will expand tremendously, creating a host of new opportunities for the composites industry. Read here for whose providing what kind of additive manufacturing technology for use in composites fabrication.

CAMX New Attendee Spotlight – Meet Michael Dillon

For Michael Dillon, 2016 has been a jam-packed year full of new opportunities. About nine months ago, he started a new job as Vice President of Business Development at Crawford High Performance Composites. Come September, Dillon will add to his list of new experiences by attending CAMX for the first time.

Dillon is a composites expert with more than 30 years of experience as an engineer and business development leader in the aerospace Industry. Over his career, he says he would like to have had more opportunities to go to trade shows like CAMX, but would often send someone else.

“I was previously working at Gulfstream and Boeing in Charleston on the 787,” Dillon says. “I was more in the production line as an engineer, so I wasn’t as much on the traveling side.”

Dillon says he first heard about CAMX while attending a conference hosted by The Composites Consortium (TCC) in Washington, D.C. He remembers many of his colleagues in the consortium talking about CAMX and asking him if he was going. Intrigued by the buzz around CAMX, he researched the show and made the decision to attend CAMX 2016. “This time, I need to go. There’s such a plethora of opportunities to meet materials people,” Dillon says. “I’m looking forward to networking. There’s going to be people there from all over the world.”
